Introduction
Butterworth Regional Meteorological Office of the Malaysian
Meteorological Department is sited within the Royal Malaysian Air force
Airbase. This office was initially manned by the Australian Airforce and
was handed over to the Malaysian Meteorological Service in the year 1985
when the Royal Australian Air Force pulled out.
The Meteorological Office is located roughly about 15 Km. away from
the famed Penang Bridge which links Penang island to the mainland,
heading north towards our neighbouring country, Thailand.
Functions

Collection and disbursement of weather data from
weather observation stations located in the states of Perak and
Pahang. |

Plotting and analysing of weather charts. |

Daily briefing of weather conditions to the Royal
Malaysian Airforce / RAAF in their daily flight-planning schedule. |
Services
The Malaysian Meteorological Department is a public service, but here at
the Butterworth Regional Office we are more oriented towards providing
weather forecasting to the Royal Malaysian Airforce / RAAF and others in
their daily flight-planning operations.
