Strong Wind & Rough Seas Warning Issuance Criteria

Warning Level Criteria Possible Effects Action Taken
FIRST Strong winds with wind speeds from 40-50 kmph and/or rough seas with wave heights of up to 3.5 meters.
  • Dangerous to small crafts.
  • Dangerous to all recreational activities and water sports.
  • Monitoring is carried out carefully and continuously.
  • Issuance of alerts when criteria are met.
  • Warnings are disseminated to all relevant agencies, mass media agencies and the public via myCuaca, eMET, SMS, MET Malaysia website, mass media, social media, fax and email.
SECOND Strong winds with wind speeds of 50-60 kmph and/or rough seas with wave heights of up to 4.5 meters.
  • Dangerous to all shipping activities including fishing and ferry services.
  • Dangerous to all coastal activities.
  • Monitoring is carried out carefully and continuously.
  • Issuance of alerts when criteria are met.
  • Warnings are disseminated to all relevant agencies, mass media agencies and the public via myCuaca, eMET, SMS, MET Malaysia website, mass media, social media, fax and email.
THIRD Strong winds with speeds exceeding 60 kmph and/or rough seas with wave heights exceeded 4.5 meters.
  • Dangerous to all shipping activities.
  • Dangerous to all workers on oil platforms.
  • Dangerous to all coastal activities.
  • Monitoring is carried out carefully and continuously.
  • Issuance of alerts when criteria are met.
  • Warnings are disseminated to all relevant agencies, mass media agencies and the public via myCuaca, eMET, SMS, MET Malaysia website, mass media, social media, fax and email.
