Melaka Meteorological Office

Introduction

Melaka Meteorological Office located 11.1km from Bandar Hilir, Melaka operates 24 hours a day and 7 days a week with a total staff of 9 people. The office is responsible for providing weather information for civil aviation operations and flight academies at the Melaka International Airport.

Function

  • To monitor the weather condition continuously in the state of Melaka.

  • To provide meteorological services for flight operations at the Melaka International Airport

  • To issues weather alerts for aviation, maritime activities, disaster management and the public

Services

  • To continuously monitor weather conditions.

  • To disseminate weather warnings to the State Government, State Disaster Management Committees, and relevant government agencies such as the Civil Defense Force (APM) and the Marine Department.

  • To issue airport alerts on significant weather parameters affecting flight safety, when necessary.

  • All meteorological services provided for civil aviation comply with the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

  • Disseminate severe weather warnings issued by the National Weather and Geophysics Operations Centre to the public and government agencies immediately, to reduce the risk of loss of life and property.

  • Disseminate advisories or severe weather warnings within 30 minutes of receipt.

  • Respond immediately and courteously to all weather-related inquiries via telephone or in-person visits at any time (24 hours a day, including Sundays and public holidays).
