Pahang Meteorological Office


Introduction

Pahang Meteorological Office started its operation in 1951 as a Meteorological Station at the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) base in Kuantan. In order to meet the current functions and responsibilities, it was upgraded to a state office and supported by four other offices namely Muadzam Shah, Temerloh, Batu Embun and Cameron Highlands Meteorological Office. The main function for network establishment of these 5 surface observation stations, 1 upper-air station and 1 radar station in the state of Pahang is to provide meteorological services for aviation purposes and the general public. In order to ensure quality services and to fulfill customer requirements, the Quality Management System has been implemented and the office has been certified with MS ISO 9001: 2008 since 2005.

Functions
  • To ensure all the activities meet the state and national requirements.

  • To provide expert advisory services in the fields of meteorology, geophysics, and tsunami to government departments.

  • To create public awareness of extreme weather, earthquakes, and tsunamis through programs and activities conducted from time to time.

Services
  • To provide aviation weather documents for civil and military flight operations, both domestic and international.

  • To provide daily general weather outlooks to the public.

  • To provide radio weather outlooks issued every 8 hours.

  • To provide weather information and meteorological data to the public and clients from various sectors such as agriculture, construction, tourism, industry, transportation and fisheries.

  • To disseminate weather advisories or severe weather warnings to disaster management agencies and the general public.

Client Charter

We, the staff of the Pahang Meteorological Office, with full determination and commitment, pledge and promise to dedicate our energy and efforts to providing quality, professional, ethical, and customer-friendly services. We promise to deliver the following services:

  • All meteorological services provided for civil aviation comply with the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

  • All weather forecast documents for international and domestic flights shall be prepared no later than three (3) and two (2) hours, respectively, before each flight.

  • Disseminate severe weather warnings issued by the National Weather and Geophysics Operations Centre to the public and government agencies immediately, to reduce the risk of loss of life and property.

  • Disseminate advisories or severe weather warnings within 30 minutes of receipt.

  • Respond immediately and courteously to all weather-related inquiries via telephone or in-person visits at any time (24 hours a day, including Sundays and public holidays).
