Perlis Meteorological Office was established in 1977 in Mata Ayer, Perlis and its original name Chuping Meteorological Station. It consists of meteorological surface stations, vault seismic station 'Strong motion' and some special tools for agriculture such as Wet-only system, High Volume Air Sampling (HVAS -PM 10) and Anderson Acid Precipitation Sampler (AAPS). There are 4 of auxiliary weather station under the supervision of the Perlis Meteorological Office located at Hospital Kangar, Padang Veterinar Padang Besar, Felda Chuping B and Perhutanan Wang Kelian also NEXUS Siren in Kuala Perlis . Perlis Meteorological Office was established to serve the primary function of continuous weather monitoring and to provide the necessary meteorological data for weather forecast in the northern area of Peninsular Malaysia.
To manage the administration, development and operations of the Department at the state level.
To ensure all the activities meet the state and national requirements.
To provide expert advisory services in the fields of meteorology, geophysics, and tsunami to the state government.
To provide data for Agriculture Department and Health Department.
To create public awareness of extreme weather, earthquakes, and tsunamis through programs and activities at the state level
To provide weather information for public, hotel and ferry.
To provide weather information and meteorological data to the public and clients from various sectors such as agriculture, construction, tourism, industry, transportation and fisheries.
To disseminate weather advisories or severe weather warnings to disaster management agencies and the general public.
To provide daily general weather outlooks to the public.

All meteorological services provided for civil aviation comply with the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
Disseminate severe weather warnings issued by the National Weather and Geophysics Operations Centre to the public and government agencies immediately, to reduce the risk of loss of life and property.
Provide immediate responses to inquiries regarding weather and sea conditions.
